Simple Social Media Ideas for Small Businesses: Part 1

Welcome to the LadyBlog! As a small business owner, do you dread coming up with ideas for your social media posts?  I have now been posting for over a year as a small business owner and feel like I have found a fun and manageable system for social media marketing. Let me share my story…

I am a Mom, a wife, a fur-baby Mom, an educator and an owner operated, small mobile notary business owner. As a business owner with no employees, I have many hats and am really putting all my love and effort into making this little business successful. This blog will focus on sharing social media ideas for your marketing campaigns.

It took me a good 6 months to figure out what to focus on and how to tell my story. My focus might not be the same as yours, but will still help guide some of your decisions.

NATIONAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS

I started wanting to show that although I am all those things above, I love celebrating all the ‘good things in life’. This idea came about through my personality, but also the fact that I could not figure out what to post or who my target customer was. I am not saying that my social media channels are growing quickly but I get a LOT of compliments and some business by showing who I am and celebrating these national and/or international events.

REVIEWS

Once I started growing my business, I made a concerted effort to get reviews from my customers. This was also a hard decision because I could not figure out which was the best and most impactful. After MUCH research I found out that Google and Facebook are the best review systems for my industry. Once I receive them, I make a post using video of my website or a Canvar representation of the reviews.

BEHIND THE SCENES

This strategy took some time, I had to build the confidence to show my processes such as driving to meet a customer, showing how I pack my notary bag, setting up for a meeting with a customer, the list truly is endless. I found that it was more about being brave and just posting and putting it out there; some have been very successful and others have not. The way I see it, if I am having fun doing it, the rest will follow eventually.

HACKS

I loved learning that this was something post-worthy. I have enjoyed becoming an ‘authority in my industry’. I laugh as I say this because success is defined by you, what others see matters in a business but when you are the one doing ‘all the things’ just enjoy the process and do not let yourself stress. If you lose followers because you posted something they did not like, be at peace with it. I have sometimes not posted anything and still lose followers (it hurts for sure lol). But again as the eternal optimist, I let myself wallow a little in self-pity and then bounce right back, hoping for a better interaction tomorrow or on the next post.

PERSONAL EVENTS

This one is totally up to you, you do NOT have to show anybody anything personal, but if you do then it can be a fun way to combine your worlds into one and give you more to share with your followers, customers, friends and family alike!

In honor of today being Valentine’s Day and also the International Book Giving Day, I have created a social media calendar for you to have for FREE (not a book but still). The way to use the calendar is to review the activities in the respective week, select any activity that you want to celebrate, plan the post ahead of time or on the fly, it’s up to you! I like to take videos or pictures of possible future posts. For example, on World Nutella Day, I bought some Nutella and recorded myself eating with a customer. I would also look at the week ahead to start thinking of ways to post under those events by planning, taking video or pictures.

I truly hope that you are able to find some fun within the stresses we endure as owner operators. I would also recommend focusing on your message, but while you are getting to know yourself, your business, your customer and your abilities, have fun with it!  In order to help, I will share an events calendar monthly, if you are interested just subscribe at the bottom of the blog page at ladybugmobileservices.com. Happy posting!
